Thomas looked over his crop. He smiled at the little sprouts of green that stretched as far as the eye could see. It took him a long time, it took him a lot of hard work, but he was here and he felt for the first time in years like he could take a moment to appreciate the fruit of his labor. He reached down and pulled at the leafy thrush of the potato plant.

Web of Venom: Cult of Carnage #1 (Marvel)

Frank Tieri (W) Danilo Beyruth (A)

One of the coolest parts of Donny Cates’ Venom runs gets its own one shot. I’m interested to see where they take this.

She Could Fly: The Lost Pilot #1 (of 5) (Berger Books)

Christopher Cantwell (W) Martin Morazzo (A)

One of my absolute favorite books from last year is getting a sequel. I am so fucking pumped for this book. It’s such an honest comic. It comes from somewhere real and somewhere difficult.

Faithless #1 (of 5) (BOOM!)

Brian Azzarello (W) Maria Llovet (A)

Holy shit. This book surprised me when it hit solicitations. I love Azzarello, but the real reasons I got excited was for Llovet and Pope on covers. Two of my current favorite artists doing a book that has already won me over.

The Life and Death of Toyo Harada #2 (of 6) (Valiant)

Joshua Dysart (W) Cafu (A)

I’m not familiar with this character. Some of the world building in issue one was a little confusing for me, but I think I got the idea and honestly, this is a very promising little mini series.

Invaders #4 (Marvel)

Chip Zdarsky (W) Carlos Magno (A)

I think this issue will clear up a lot of the issues I’ve had with the series. Namely being really confused by Namor’s amnesia.

Age of Conan: Bêlit #2 (of 5) (Marvel)

Tini Howard (W) Kate Niemczyk (A)

The first issue of this series was fairly interesting new story. New characters that have already been teased in the new Conan series. I’m really interested in how they are going to build this Conan universe in the future.

Captain Marvel #4 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Carmen Carnero (A)

The last issue of this series really came into its own for me. It had a lot more underneath the surface than I was expecting and I should have known better. Shame on me.

Gunning for Hits #4 (Image)

Jeff Rougvie (W) Moritat (A)

This book is a strange one. I say that a lot, but this one is hard to place. I said this before, but I think I’m learning stuff with this book. It’s a little like an autobiography by spy thriller.

Savage Sword of Conan #4 (Marvel)

Gerry Duggan (W) Ron Garney (A)

So this book doesn’t have the tone that I like from the Aaron Conan series, but it is definitely a different take on the character. I think that it’s pretty interesting the way they’re handling the Cimmerian for sure.

Justice League Odyssey #8 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Daniel Sampere (A)

I feel like this series has been getting more and more interesting with every issue. I was definitely afraid when this book changed writers, but I think it has benefited the book immensely.

Dead Man Logan #6 (of 12) (Marvel)

Ed Brisson (W) Mike Henderson (A)

The team up we’ve been waiting for. Wolverine and Wolverine.

Wonder Woman #68 (DC)

G. Willow Wilson (W) Cary Nord (A)

The tone of this book is wildly different from the tone that Rucka had, but that being said, it is fresh, interesting and well crafted.

The Batman Who Laughs #4 (of 6) (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Jock (A)

Beginning to think I see the twist here.

Catwoman #10 (DC)

Joëlle Jones (W) Fernando Blanco (A)

More Catwoman being badass please. Thank you.

Detective Comics #1001 (DC)

Peter J. Tomasi (W) Brad Walker (A)

Can I say that the preview for this book was the most uninteresting part of issue 1000. That’s more of a testament to how good that issue was, but also, I don’t care about the Arkham Knight. I mean, I’m sure this will be good, I’m just saying.

Oblivion Song #14 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Lorenzo De Felici (A)

There is no fucking break with this book. It’s impressive really. That being said, I need a break. Okay maybe I don’t know what I want.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #5 (Marvel)

Tom Taylor (W) Jorge Molina (A)

Fuck. Oh fuck. This issue is gonna hurt.

Batman #68 (DC)

Tom King (W) Amanda Conner (A)

Amanda Conner on Batman? What is happening here? Also it’s a Catwoman bachelorette party? What’s going on.

Wonder Twins #3 (of 6) (Wonder Comics)

Mark Russell (W) Stephen Byrne (A)

I think they’ve captured the perfect voice for this book. I’m only sad that it’s just a mini series. Give me more Russell.

The Amazing Spider-Man #19 (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Gerardo Sandoval (A)

This book has been solid all the way through, but the execution on this big inner-series event proves to me that it is going to stay that way.

Murder Falcon #7 (of 8) (Image)

Daniel Warren Johnson (W/A)

I’m going to lament for a little bit longer about this series ending. Deal with it.

Low #21 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Greg Tocchini (A)

It’s back…again….I’m ready to hurt once more.

As he pulled and the dirt fell away from the roots, he spied two things that he expected. The first and most obvious was a small gathering of spuds. Spotted with dirt and as pale as his mother’s face. The next was a little harder to make out. It was a little baggie of cocaine wrapped in the roots of the fruit. He smiled and tugged the bag off the plant, shoving it in his overall pocket. Gingerly, he placed the plant back in the small hole he had left.
