Chef Malveaux held his breath as he put the final garnishes on his most delicious design. It was a completely new meal. He had recently acquired some unique meats from his friends in the space program, along with a bundle of herbs from an uncharted gaseous bubble that formed deep underwater. Miraculously he had also discovered a new manner of cooking food that took an extreme amount of patience and concentration to boil/fry the food in mid air. This was something never before tasted. A new cuisine entirely. As he placed the last snip of strange herb on the plate he lost conciousness. His head hit the table on the way down, killing him instantly.

Die!Die!Die! (Image)

Robert Kirkman/Scott M. Gimple (W) Chris Burnham (A)

So, This was a surprise. You may not even know this exists. I know I didn’t know about it until yesterday. That’s because Image didn’t tell anyone it was coming out. It was a massive surprise, and shops that ordered Oblivion Song got the same number of issues of this book for the month. Even the shops didn’t know. That’s really fucking cool if you ask me.

Farmhand #1 (Image)

Rob Guillory (W/A)

I honestly don’t even know what to say about this book. It looks strange, it’s by one of th creators of Chew. It’s about farming body parts. That’s pretty much the gist of it, I think.

Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Ryan Ottley (A)

I was originally going to pass on this book. I love Spider-Man but something about his on goings over the last few years have kept me away. I wasn’t a big fan of the direction they were taking the character and so I stayed away. Two things changed my mind recently. One was Spectacular Spider-Man. It made me fall in love with the character again. The other was the free comic book day preview. Holy hell did that change my mind on this one. See, I can learn.

Exiles #5 (Marvel)

Saladin Ahmed (W) Javier Rodriguez (A)

I really love Saladin’s work, but this series feels a little bit like it’s spinning its wheels. I don’t dislike the idea behind this book, but the repetitive nature of it so far has me a little concerned. Hopefully it can pull itself together for a solid finale to the arc.

Eternity Girl #5 (Young Animal)

Magdalene Visaggio (W) Sonny Liew (A)

This book is a little complicated. I really love the story that I think it’s telling, but its definitely up for interpretation. This is a book that I will no doubt have to read again when it’s finished.

Wonder Woman #50 (DC)

James Robinson (W) Jesus Merino (A)

The last arc of Robinson’s run on Wonder Woman, I think? I thought Steve Orlando was replacing him, but it seems he’s only a guest writer, so maybe Robinson will return. Either way, I’ve enjoyed his tenure on the book even if it is a little campy at times. Sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered.

The Punisher #227 (Marvel)

Matthew Rosenberg (W) Stefano Landini (A)

I really love that Rosenberg is getting to write Black Widow again. His run on Tales of Suspense was incredible and the fact that he is getting to come back and play in that world a little does nothing short of thrill me.

Ms.Marvel #32 (Marvel)

G. Willow Wilson (W) Nico Leon (A)

I am so happy with this series as of late. The last issue, Kamala’s fiftieth anniversary issue, was incredible and really just played into everything that I love about the character. That along with some cast that I had been missing means that this book is doing better than ever.

Sideways #6 (DC)

Justin Jordan/Dan DiDio (W) Kenneth Rocafort (A)

This is when things go Sideways. Get it. Because the name of the comic is Sideways.

Plastic Man #2 (DC)

Gail Simone (W) Adriana Melo (A)

Holy crap! I absolutely loved the first issue of this series. I was instantly filled with sadness over the fact that this will not be an ongoing series. Damn you DC.

Daredevil #605 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Mike Henderson (A)

I can’t say it enough, this book has been incredible recently. Sometimes I feel like a writer has finally built up to a story they’ve wanted to tell for years, and this is a prime example. It’s loud, crazy, and most importantly, fun.

Old Man Logan #43 (Marvel)

Ed Brisson (W) Juan Ferreyra (A)

Do you see the artist for this issue? I do, and I let out a strange noise when I saw it for the first time. I am so fucking happy Ferreyra is on this book. Even if only for a few issues, this is a perfect match for his style, and he’ll kill it.

Oblivion Song #5 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Lorenzo De Felici (A)

I curious about this book. It’s a high concept idea, and with Kirkman that means he plays around in the universe a little before he even attempts to tackle the main issues in the book. That being said, this book is different. It seems he’s barreling right towards the issue at the core of this title. I think that means things aren’t as they seem.

Isola #4 (Image)

Brenden Fletcher (W) Karl Kerschl (A)

Complex stories really get my goat. This book is a wonderful exercise in world building. It’s such a vast an colorful universe, I sometimes get lost in between the lines on the page. Somewhere my mind drifts. That is why this is such a wonderful book.

Black Science #37 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Matteo Scalera (A)

This arc is going to be one of my favorites if not my favorite. God World was previously my favorite and this arc has not just hints, but entire reconstructions and elaborations on some of those ideas. Buckle up folks, this is gonna be a ride.

His name went down in history for his new meal. One that became a favorite around the globe and then shortly afterwards, the universe. The name Malveaux became synonymous with food, and expressly the discovering of new cuisine. His fame caused a new way of culinary mastery, as new children strove to be like the famous man the world revered. Soon food became the design of humanity. World peace only achieved through the mastery of knife and spice. One fact that escaped the history book though, was that upon receiving the final meal of the world changing chef, the critic being served said it was only a little too cold for his liking.
