The rain fell outside her window. It reminded her of the time her mother had taken her to the beach as a child. The day had been gray and pathetic, but her mom, being the optimist she was, took her to the shore anyway. They decided not to get in the water because it was too cold, but her mom always joked that they didn’t need to because the sky brought the ocean to them instead. That was during the divorce, when time seemed hard to come by. They haven’t talked in months. Terri wondered how she was doing.
Leviathan #1 (Image)
John Layman (W) Nick Pitarra (A)
This is one hell of a power team. I’m always on board for some Pitarra, but with Layman on scripting duties, this book is guaranteed to be a fucking roller coaster. Honestly though, everyone loves a big ole monster story.
The Seeds #1 (Berger Books)
Ann Nocenti (W) David Aja (A)
I have been waiting desperately for this title since I saw the first cover image. The preview only solidified my need of this comic. It looks like such a brilliant book. I think this one may be a sleeper hit. Read it, then lets talk.
Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers #2 (IDW)
Joe R. Lansdale (W) Tadd Galusha (A)
Okay, I was trying to resist this book. I didn’t plan on getting issue one, but I can’t help myself sometimes. I’m a huge fan of the movie and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m gonna need you to find out quick.
Bloodstrike #24 (Image)
Michel Fiffe (W/A)
ARE YOU TIRED OF WHINEY LITTLE SUPERHEROES DOMINATING YOUR SHOP? “OH BOO-HOO I HAVE THE PROPORTIANAL STRENGTH OF A SPIDER, AND I ACCIDENTLY KILLED MY GIRLFRIEND”. SAY GOOD-BYE TO SAD SAP SUPERS, SAY HELLO TO A BRUTAL BATTALION OF BADASS BUTTKICKERS!
Death of the Inhumans #2 (Marvel)
Donny Cates (W) Ariel Olivetti (A)
The first issue of this book hurt my heart. In the scope of things, I’m not really sure how much any of this is actually going to stick. That being said, if it does stick, it kinda sucks to be and Inhumans fan right about now.
Astonishing X-Men #14 (Marvel)
Matthew Rosenberg (W) Greg Land (A)
Rosenberg brings the motherfucking heat in this book. The first issue of this comic may have been my favorite first issue of a Marvel book in a long time. He has such a great handle on these characters, I cannot wait to see what he does when he is let loose in the X-men playground.
The Quantum Age #2 (Dark Horse)
Jeff Lemire (W) Wilfredo Torres (A)
This series didn’t pack as big a punch in the first issue as any of the other Black Hammer books did, in my opinion. That being said, Lemire is definitely the type of writer to really swim around in an idea before striking you with something powerful.
Justice League #5 (DC)
James Tynion IV (W) Doug Mahnke/Jaime Mendoza (A)
Who doesn’t like a good “bad guys win” story? I mean, I don’t really know if that’s whats going on in this issue because I haven’t read it, but I mean, look at that cover. Uh. Yeah, this comic looks good. I don’t know, make your own opinions, damn.
Captain America #2 (Marvel)
Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Leinil Francis Yu (A)
I fucking loved the first issue of this book. Like, even more than I was expecting, and I was expecting a whole lot. I am a needy person, you should have learned this by now.
Survival Fetish #3 (Black Mask)
Patrick Kindlon (W) Antonio Fuso (A)
Hey, you big old dumb! Read this book. It’s about stuff, like, family, and money, and guns, and running and stuff. It’s real good, and it’s real pretty and you should probably read more small press books because you support the medium. Yeah, thanks.
Batman #52 (DC)
Tom King (W) Lee Weeks (A)
Dammit people. The last issue of Batman was incredible and I love it. That is all.
Seven to Eternity #10 (Image)
Rick Remender (W) Jerome Opena (A)
Holy shit, I thought everyone who worked on this book died or something. Finally, the book is back with the original artist on board to please our eyes with his pretty pretty pictures. I cannot wait to jump back into this one.
The Immortal Hulk #4 (Marvel)
Al Ewing (W) Joe Bennet (A)
This book is some of the best stuff that has come out of Marvel in years. That’s not even a dig at the company, it’s just so fucking good it shakes the earth when it arrives. Read this book or be on the wrong side of history.
Paper Girls #23 (Image)
Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chiang (A)
History segue. See what I did there. I’m so clever. I’m impressive, you should be impressed by me, segue, you should also be impressed by this book because it’s good. Expert writing skills.
Mister Miracle #10 (DC)
Tom King (W) Mitch Gerads (A)
You ready to feel dead inside. It’s time for the TOM KING/MITCH GERAD SADNESS POWER HOUR! FEATURING EVERYONE’S FAVORITE SAD-BOY, MISTER MIRACLE.
The Highest House #6 (IDW)
Mike Carey (W) Peter Gross (A)
Fuck, it had to end eventually and I don’t think that I was really ready for it so soon. Whatever at least I get to see it end. That’s a plus. Someone didn’t. Think about that.
The sound of the rain seemed so much louder in the house now that it was empty. Terri had a habit of keeping all of the lights off when she was by herself. It had been like this for weeks. Something deep inside her wanted her to isolate herself and she wasn’t feeling strong enough to fight it right now. The white light of the computer monitor bore into her head. She contemplated her place. She contemplated her future.
