Reflectors on the road catch the headlights to his car. Music plays from his speakers, barely audible over the pitter-patter of rain on the roof of the car. His windshield wipers scrape across the window leaving multi-colored smears of light and tar black. Above the trees industrial fog gets illuminated from the inside by harsh blue light. Just twelve more miles.
Wonder Woman #28 (DC)
Shea Fontana (W) David Messina (A)
I know what you’re thinking. “BUT CLAY, YOU SAID THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SERIES THAT DC IS PUTTING OUT!”. Yeah I said that, yeah, I’m still excited for this book, but this new team is not doing it for me. I try not to be harsh on people coming up in the comics industry, but damn. It’s hard not to notice a drop in quality.
Black Cloud #5 (Image)
Jason Latour/Ivan Brandon (W) Greg Hinkle (A)
I have no fucking idea what’s going on in this book. Not in the cool “Paper Girls”, “I know I’m not supposed to know what’s going on, but just enjoy the ride” way. In the “I think by this point, and the way the story is moving, I should understand what’s going on but I don’t” kinda way.
Green Arrow #29 (DC)
Ben Percy (W) Juan Ferreyra (A)
After years of being a bargain bin Batman on the CW, these two brooding, rich, vigilantes are teaming up to take down some baddies. At least they didn’t call him The Arrow for the first two arcs.
Invincible Iron Man #10 (Marvel)
Brian Michael Bendis (W) Stefano Caselli (A)
Oh, shit, the stuff they’ve been hinting at for a while is coming to fruition. Tony A.I. is going nutzo. Makes sense to me.
Secret Weapons #3 (Valiant)
Eric Heisserer (W) Raul Allen (A)
This series has been great. I love the characters that they are introducing. Okay, so I’m not sure they are introducing the two main characters, but I’ve never heard of them. Yes, I know Livewire is an important character in the universe. I’m not talking about her.
The Mighty Thor #22 (Marvel)
Jason Aaron (W) Russell Dauterman (A)
I fucking love the Ultimate Thor. I don’t care what anyone says, this is a Thor you don’t get in the way of. That’s saying something, because you really shouldn’t get in front of the other Thor either.
Astonishing X-Men #2 (Marvel)
Charles Soule (W) Mike Deodato (A)
The first issue of this comic blew my socks off. Literally. My socks flew off my feet with a vicious speed. It’s definitely a series you should all be reading.
Bitch Planet: Triple Feature #3 (Image)
Alissa Sallah/ Dylan Meconis/Kit Cox (W) Alec Valerius/Dylan Meconis/Vanesa Del Rey (A)
I was hesitant about this formula. I mean, I want more of the main story, of course. That being said, this series acts as scenery. It paints such a beautiful and detailed world. Something you can’t get with just one ongoing. I dig it.
Regression #4 (Image)
Cullen Bunn (W) Danny Luckert (A)
This comic is fucking spooky. That’s all you need to know.
Curse Words #7 (Image)
Charles Soule (W) Ryan Browne (A)
I really love this comic. It’s so fucking good. The premise is a home run, the execution is a grand fucking slam. Please read this book.
Batman #29 (DC)
Tom King (W) Mikel Janin (A)
This arc is exploring something new in the Batman world. A time Batman failed. It may not always have the fights, or explosions a normal Batman story might, but it does have depth and regret. Things I love.
Dark Nights: Metal #1 (of 6) (DC)
Scott Snyder (W) Greg Capullo (A)
You should already know why this is fucking exciting. If you don’t I suggest you get to googling this shit.
Descender #23 (Image)
Jeff Lemire (W) Dustin Nguyen (A)
I have a feeling this arc is going to make me feel really sad. That’s okay, sadness is okay. Everyone gets sad. Fuck.
Southern Bastards #17 (Image)
Jason Aaron (W) Jason Latour (A)
After dealing with some personal stuff, this series is back on its feet and I am so fucking happy to see it back. I have been patiently waiting, and now I can devour it like the good meal it will be.
He hadn’t seen her in five years. The darkness swallowed their old house like the maw of a beast. His headlights cut the teeth. The car ran on idle as he contemplated how it was he arrived here. After years of hiding from the people he cared about. How could she ever forgive him? Something caught his eye. A face in the window above him. A familiar face, worn by tears and neglect. A face that tensed the muscles in his back. She could never forgive him, neither could she forget.
