The crisp wind pushed his shirt to his chest as he walked through the automatic doors of his job and into the street. He scratched the part of his chest where the wash-worn decal of the store’s mascot, a pug, had once sat looking clean and important. The dog was now cracked and peeling, a symbol of Derek’s time at the store. A few teenagers that had parked on the other side of the parking lot, turned and watched him as he made his way to his car. He imagined their condescending quips and carefree attitudes and lamented in his state. He reached his car and pressed the little button on his keys to unlock his car. It didn’t work the first time, and rather than try again and risk looking like a fool, he slid the key into the door.
Empress #6 of 7 (Marvel)
Mark Millar (W) Stuart Immonen (A)
I can say without any form of doubt, that this series isn’t really doing it for me. I mean, it’s not bad, or else I wouldn’t be following it. I just think there was more that could have been done in the series. Still two issues left though.
Dept. H #6 (Dark Horse)
Matt Kindt (W) Matt Kindt (A)
I really love the asthetic of this comic, but it’s hard to put it higher up the list due to its dull pacing. Some issues will really pop, but other drag. That being said, it is a murder mystery-slash-suspence book, so that pacing is what really builds the tension. It’s hard to place.
Rumble #14 (Image)
John Arcudi (W) James Harren (A)
Sadly this series has seriously fallen off the wagon this last arc. I feel like there is still life in this comic but they really need to show it to me before it goes belly up.
Batman #7 (DC)
Tom King (W) Riley Rossmo (A)
So, I am really excited for this tie in. This series has been solid from the get, and this is a crazy concept for a Batman comic. If they keep pumping out fresh ideas like this, Rebirth will continue to rock the stands every week.
Nightwing #5 (DC)
Tim Seeley (W) Roge Antonia (A)
Okay, so this one cheated it’s way into the rankings. It’s part two to the tie in, as mentioned above. Heard decent things about this series, but didn’t pick it up when it started.
Green Arrow #7 (DC)
Ben Percy (W) Stephen Byrne (A)
This series continuously doles out nice helpings of quality comic goodness. I’ve become invested in a character whose show I adamantly avoid watching because of a terrible first season. So, that’s something.
The Mighty Thor #11 (Marvel)
Jason Aaron (W) Russell Dauterman (A)
Okay, so the twist at the end of the last issue worked. I am confused and super pumped for the next one. Are you happy? You win.
Karnak #5 (Marvel)
Warren Ellis (W) Gerardo Zaffino (A)
This comic is super good n stuff. Seriously, this serious has kicked ass the whole way through, and we are at the penultimate issue of the first arc. Be ready for a bomb.
Archie #12 (Archie Comics)
Mark Waid (W) Veronica Fish (A)
Do I need to say it any more than I already do? Read this fucking comic.
Civil War II #5 of 7 (Marvel)
Brian Michael Bendis (W) David Marquez (A)
After a wee delay, we get back on track. I am very ready for this story to come to a close. Not in a bad way, the opposite even.
Black Hammer #3 (Dark Horse)
Jeff Lemire (W) Dean Ormston (A)
This comic was a surprise favorite. After almost missing it entirely, it has quickly joined the ranks of my favorite current comics. Extremely good storytelling. This team is tops.
Chris Dingess (W) Matthew Roberts (A)
I have absolutely loved this entire arc. It has created a looming lore for Sasquatch that is believable and just as ridiculous as anything else in this insane book. I love this title with all of my heart.
He blasted his music and rolled his windows down. He hoped he could catch some of that teenage whimsy, the stuff that allowed you to walk into the world brave and brash. It did not come to him. Instead the accusing eyes of the older patrons of the store fell on him. He turned his music down a few clicks, not enough to let them win. Derek thought about driving anywhere, he thought about the benefit of his own life. That night Derek didn’t make it to anywhere. He hardly made it home.
