I have a strange affection for James Robinson ever since the first issue of Airboy. It’s like he really stepped out of his comfort zone and wrote some blisteringly painful truth. That’s why I really want this series to be what I know it can be. Come on James, bring the heat.
Squadron Sinister #3 (Marvel)
Marc Guggenheim (W) Carlos Pacheco (A)
This series has some intense potential, and I hope in the few remaining issues that it is tapped into. I really want to like Guggenheim, but I mean, I’m still struggling through season one of Arrow for the exact reason that I’m struggling through this. It is so dry. Something this awesome shouldn’t be so damn dry.
Broken World #4 of 4 (BOOM!)
Frank J. Barbiere (W) Christopher Peterson (A)
This series has been excellent so far. As with so many limited series, I walk the line of wanting it to keep going for longer, and being happy that the full story was realized from the begining, allowing for a short and to the point series.
Hail Hydra #2 (Marvel)
Rick Remender (W) Roland Boschi (A)
This series breaks the rules of Secret Wars. First off, you need to read Remender’s Captain America to truly appreciate this series. Therein lies the issue, not really an issue though. Somehow another character has managed to survive the end of the world, but they did it without the help of the raft. Intriguing? I say yes, splendidly intriguing!

This comic is really really coming along on its own. It has hit its stride already and we are truly getting Kot’s vision here. This is what America is. An unhappy place, a monument of something that died a long time ago. This is new America and we aren’t happy to admit it.

New writer and new artist Penalta joins the mix with a new story in the 8house anthology. I am admittedly really excited for the future of this series. There is such fertile ground in this strange collaborative form. While Graham shapes the world, a series of artists and writers paint their chunks of this new land. Giddy, just giddy!

Hey, I thought this was over. It isn’t and I’m an idiot for thinking so. Apparently this issue marks the end of volume one, and if subsequent volumes are as good, this will be one to look out for. It has been phenomenal.
Thors #3 (Marvel)
Jason Aaron (W) Chris Sprouse (A)
I love this freaking series. It’s so funny, but that’s not just it. While it maintains that it is essentially a cop drama, which it does pitch perfectly, it knows exactly what it is and revels in it. The idea of Thor being a cop is just funny, no way around it.
We Stand On Guard #3 (Image)

This is not my favorite Brian K. Vaughan series. That means nothing. If you have two diamonds next to each other, one has to be less brilliant than the other, but it’s still a god damned diamond. Just saying.
Plutona #1 (Image)

This series seems so damn interesting to me, I feel as if I’m crawling out of my skin waiting to read it. One of my favorite writers working with a relatively new face , who’s artwork is jaw dropping. On top of this they’re giving me a story about a group of children who find a super-heroine dead in the woods. Give it to me now.
Miracleman By Gaiman and Buckingham #1 (Marvel)

After the first re-published line of Miracleman comics came out, I have been eagerly awaiting this next run. The first was so brilliantly orchestrated, and with a team such as this one, I know it’s going to be amazing, but so do the people who read it the first time around.
Daredevil #18 (Marvel)
Mark Waid (W) Chris Samnee (A)
This is the end of an era. No not time for a new #1. This is the last issue of Samnee and Waid’s run(s) on Daredevil. They may once again grace the character, but for now this is it. After Secret Wars we get a new run with a new creative team, while that is a comic I am excited for, it will never be this series. We will miss this comic, but we all know good things must come to an end. Fare thee well.
Dying and the Dead #3 (Image)

Finally, we get another issue of what may just become my favorite ongoing. This story is seat clingingly captivating. For the last month I have stared in dismay at my pull list each week, waiting for the day that this comic would come back. It is time. I have my survival gear ready.
Now that the EMT has safely removed our dancer’s convulsing, horrid body from our place of worship, we can safely say goodnight, or day. It’s relative really. Always remember to stay smart children.
