Ah yes. School starts once again in our fair part of the world. You can almost hear the spines breaking. I’m talking about books of course. Like that one book when Bane just totally crippled the shit out of that little bitch Batman and we were all like “OOOOOH”. Then he just walked away cause, you know, Batman was all like broken and shit. Aw man that was intense. Any way here are some other books you can slide in your textbook and make like you’re actually being one of those straight A students. Lets be serious though, we all know the truth, Top of the Stack.
Old Man Logan #4 (Marvel)
Brian Michael Bendis (W) Andrea Sorrentino (A)
I was actually pretty disappointed with the last issue of this series. This comic is about Old Man Logan making his way across Battleworld, but when he is dropped in the middle of a a second brand new domain, he is still confused. The Wolverine I know isn’t this dense.
Where Monsters Dwell #4 of 5 (Marvel)
Garth Ennis (W) Russell Braun (A)
This series is really funny. It’s one of my friend’s favorite series tying into Secret Wars. I love it too, but I do wish that it was a little more involved in the Secret Wars. That being said, I actually find it refreshing to have a story that isn’t tangled in the web of the event.
Dead Drop #4 of 4 (Valiant)
Ales Kot (W) Adam Gorham (A)
I am actually a little sad to see this comic go the way of the Dodo. I has been an extremely fun romp through the world of Valiant. Featuring many of the popular characters battling this strange unseen enemy with a healthy dose of humor. Interested to see how this one ends.
Ant-Man: Last Days #1 (Marvel)
Nick Spencer (W) Ramon Rosanas (A)
Okay, not entirely sure why they started a whole new series just to give us the “Last Days” bit of the story. I mean Loki and Magneto both just kinda included it in the final arc. Whatever, this one will be good, the comic is fantastic, I can only imagine that this will follow suit.
Civil War #3 (Marvel)
Charles Soule (W) Leinil Francis Yu (A)
I love seeing this universe. I just want to say, this team does an amazing job capturing what may have happened had the fighting never stopped. That isn’t the center of this comic though. There is some political intrigue a-brewin’.
Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps #3 (Marvel)
Kelly Sue DeConnick (W) David Lopez (A)
I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS. Damn you Marvel, if you don’t bring these ladies into the universe. I will find you and I will hold you down while you write me an apology letter. You had better mean it, too. Nothing I hate more that insincerity.
S.H.I.E.L.D. #9 (Marvel)
Mark Waid/Stan Lee/Al Ewing(W) Lee Ferguson/ Jack Kirby (A)
Okay, I want you to look up at the talent featured in this issue. Did you just shutter? In a totally good way? Yeah, me too. An unprinted sequence penciled by Kirby, inked by Steranko and written by Lee? I mean come on. Buy this issue dammit.
They’re Not Like Us #7 (Image)
Eric Stephenson (W) Simon Gane (A)
A whole new arc for this crazy, chaotic teenage story. This comic should be on your radar, if it isn’t tap the little bit of glass on your radar, it could just be broken. Percussive maintenance is always advised.
Rumble #6 (Image)
John Arcudi (W) James Harren (A)
The kickass, in your face comedy of the year is back. I really love this comic. This new issue is the start of a new arc, and is, as the solicitation made apparent, a stand alone story. I am really excited for this comic to be coming back. I kept looking at issue five and wondering when it would return. It is now, friends.
Rasputin #8 (Image)
Alex Grecian (W) Riley Rossmo (A)
Remember when I said “I wonder how long they can make this comic”. Ignore my ignorant statement. I clearly underestimated the team behind this comic and I apologize. This comic can quite literally go on forever.
East of West #20 (Image)
Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Dragotta (A)
I’m giddy about this issue after reading the solicitation for it. We finally get a look into the hyper-advanced, potentially alien-accelerated Native American nation; The Endless Nation. I super duper hope that aliens are involved. I love aliens.
Low #9 (Image)
Rick Remender (W) Greg Tocchini (A)

Okay, I’m going to be honest. This week has been one of the hardest picks for the bottom of the stack. I am really tied between East of West and Low. They are both so friggan good. It isn’t fair. I mean, you just get to read this stuff. I have to make important life decisions. I went with Low because the last issue ripped my heart out, and I really want that back. I hear it accepts bribery.
Woop there it goes, as my younger counterpart may have said at some point. Who knows? That kid was an asshole. He thought he was so freakin cool with his rat tail and Smashmouth cd. What a dick. No wonder he grew up to write a weekly article about comics. That douche. Stay smart, kids.
