Letter fall from the sky. Raining “Hellfire” on earth. Maybe not necessarily in the correct order, but the individual letter definitely fell from the sky. You know what they say about monkeys and Shakespeare, I’m sure the same can be said about the alphabet and weather patterns. Moving on. You see some symbols bounce off the roof of your neighbors house, doing a considerable amount of damage to the gutters. You are sad about that, those gutters were a long time coming for them, they deserved a break. Not this. In your sorrow you run over to the letters. You gasp in horror as you witness the words in front of you. “Top Of The Stack”
George Romero’s Empire of the Dead: Act Three #5 of 5 (Marvel)
George A. Romero (W) Andrea Mutti (A)
This is the end of the end of the end of this comic. I always wonder why they break comics up like this instead of just doing fifteen issues. Either way, this comic was pretty okay. It had some really high peaks but overall, it isn’t making my must read pile this year. Sorry guys.
Runaways #4 (Marvel)
Noelle Stevenson (W) Sanford Greene (A)
This series is really fun. I really enjoy seeing how they’ve adapted this concept and turned it into something that can both be purely Secret Wars drama and also tie into the ideas that govern the Runaways.
1872 #3 (Marvel)
Gerry Duggan (W) Nicole Virella (A)
This is one of those series that I really hope we get to see more of some day. Maybe another miniseries or something along those lines. Much like the two 1602 series, this universe and time displaced hero tale is full of ripe potential.
Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps #4 (Marvel)
Kelly Sue DeConnick (W) David Lopez (A)
Thor Corps vs. Carol Corps. Nothing like a little shock and awe right? I don’t really know what that means, I just saw it in a war movie one time and it sounded cool.
Inhumans: Attilan Rising #5 (Marvel)
Charles Soule (W) John Timms (A)
This series has managed to completely change, as is par for the course with Secret Wars, but has also managed to hold true to everything that the series was before the event. There are some pretty kickass adaptations of some Marvel characters in this series too. I’m looking at you Matt Murdock.
Weirdworld #4 (Marvel)
Jason Aaron (W) Mike Del Mundo (A)
Very excited that this series is getting an ongoing post-Secret Wars. Sadly Jason Aaron will be leaving the title, but Sam Humphries, who wrote the Planet Hulk tie in and the recent Avengers A.I. Series that I loved, will be taking over. Happily, the brilliant Del Mundo will be staying onboard as the artist for the series. Thank God.
Astro City #27 (Vertigo)
Kurt Busiek (W) Joe Infurnari (A)
The character that has had me confused since the first issue of this new volume is finally getting a back story. We finally learn about American Chibi! Such a weird character has to have some sort of crazy background story, I’m all ears.
Wilds’ End: Enemy Within #1 of 4 (BOOM!)
Dan Abnett (W) I.N.J. Culbard (A)
I absolutely loved the first arc(?) of this series. It’s hard to tell now a days, what with each five issue story being labeled its own miniseries. I always get confused with how I should refer to it. Either way, the first story was great and I have been waiting since the final page of the last issue for this series.
Nameless #5 (Image)
Grant Morrison (W) Chris Burnham (A)
I talked to my local comic shop guy the other day and he had a very plausible explanation for Grant Morrison’s writing technique. He believes that he is locked in a dark room and fed drugs as payment for his ideas. I think that just about makes sense.
Wolf #3 (Image)
Ales Kot (W) Matt Taylor (A)
This series is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. Something Kot always has a way of sneaking on me. Taylor’s work on this comic is fucking gorgeous, and with the characters and topics in this comic, you are likely to see any and everything. Superb team, creating the next great comic.
Rumble #7 (Image)
John Arcudi (W) James Harren (A)
This story is nothing short of kickass. I mean seriously. I feel like this is what happens when you write a story with a Norse God spitballing in the room with you. It’s like if they mixed a Judd Apatow movie with Hellboy.
Manhattan Projects: Sun Beyond the Stars #3 (Image)
Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Pitarra (A)
I absolutely love the way that Hickman is taking this comic forward. Telling each story individually does wonders to keep me from being confused. All the plots intertwining and breaking off again can get taxing on your brain. That being said, I loved every minute of this series. I wish more people were talking about this comic.
Solid week this week. But every week is “Solid” really. Because I don’t read things I don’t like. Which, if I did, would make it something un-solid. Maybe a gas or a liquid or maybe even a plasma. Who knows? I’ll tell you who knows, not me, that’s who. Either way, stay smart or something.
