Good morning Towelites and Toy Enthusiasts. I thought I would take a moment and reflect on the latest news from the Masters of the Universe movie front. As you all know, DFAT celebrates and adornes David S. Goyer with all of our souls, so news that he would be stepping down from the director’s chair was a welcome piece of news. Well we finally know who will fill that black hole and it’s brother duo Aaron and Adam Nee. Goyer is still penning the script so all could go south very quickly. I kid, mostly, I hear that Krypton is pretty good AND I do admit that as long as the man is writing and NOT directing the films he’s on. I can be OK with that.
Anywho who are the Nee Brothers? Well, they direct an indie film called Band of Robbers (2015) and this will be their very first major studio feature. Hmmm, I really need to see what the buzz around Band of Robbers is before I throw out any judgements but my initial thought is ‘Yikes’. Though the main characters being updated versions of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer gives me some confidence that they can handle “classic” charactes. I read somewhere that the Nee’s are big fans of Game of Thrones (who isn’t) and other medieval/barbarian stuff so maybe they have their heads in the right place. We’ll have to wait and see what Goyer comes up with story-wise and then let the brothers do their thing.
What I’m looking for in a He-Man movie is something very straightforward. It’s good vs evil, a simple story, and there’s decades of source material to draw from. Heck, take some inspiration from one of the cartoon episodes and go wild. I also want a new toy line, though I know it will get butchered and we should all be happy hunting down past MattyCollector figures or getting on board with Super 7. I don’t know what else to say but let’s see something soon. The untitled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie is due out in 2019, hopefully. Remember Ladies and Gentlemen, FOR THE HONOR OR BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL, YOU HAVE THE POWER!!!
