In the biggest opening on any September ever, Hotel Transylvania takes #1 at the box office this weekend. Putting up 43mil, it more than doubled its #2nd place rival, Looper, which ended up with 21mil. I’m not surprised that the Adam Sandler voiced family film took top position, given it was the only thing that appealed to everyone, instead of the genre heavy films like Resident Evil and House at the End of the Street. It is surprising though, just how much it made. The last film to hold top position in September was way back in 2002 with Sweet Home Alabama. As much as I love the fact that Hotel Transylvania is #1, I have a feeling that it will be knocked down a spot with Taken 2 coming out next weekend. Liam Neeson shooting people has an effect on audiences that way.
