Another weekend, another animated movie topping the Box Office. Honestly it seems that if you just make an animated movie it’s going to make money. Smallfoot was on the Top Ten for MONTHS and just finally got usurped when The Grinch showed up. The kids came out in droves as the film debuted with $66 million and brought the haunting voice of Benedict Cumberbatch to life in a big way. The Christmas classic didn’t SEEM like it needed to be remade, but alas, I’m not a kid and kids went to see it.
The other premieres this weekend were Overlord and The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which debuted in 3rd and 5th place. Neither film really appealed to audiences and as a result they earned $10 million and $8 million respectively. The rest of the Top Ten, including last week’s winner Bohemian Rhapsody in the #2 spot, can be found below.
1. The Grinch $66,000,000
2. Bohemian Rhapsody $30,850,000
3. Overlord $10,100,000
4. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms$9,565,000
5. The Girl in the Spider’s Web $8,015,000
6. A Star Is Born $8,010,000
7. Nobody’s Fool $6,540,000
8. Venom$4,850,000
9. Halloween $3,840,000
10. The Hate U Give $2,070,000
Next weekend we have the premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The film looks to be a huge step up from it’s predecessor and I can’t wait for it to destroy the Box Office. Just how much will it make? Find out in the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
