With the Holidays, you never really know how audiences are going to respond at the Box Office. Will they want the family friendly film that’s animated and stars a talking Snowman like Disney’s, Frozen? Or maybe, they’ll stick with a lot of people brutally murdering each other in an effort to save their District. Looks like it was the latter, as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire takes the #1 Spot at the Box Office again this weekend.
Title | Holiday Total | |
1. | Catching Fire | $110.1 |
2. | Frozen | $93 |
3. | Thor 2 | $15.4 |
4. | Best Man Holiday | $11.1 |
5. | Homefront | $9.7 |
6. | Delivery Man | $9.6 |
7. | The Book Thief | $6.4 |
8. | Black Nativity | $5 |
9. | Philomena | $4.6 |
10. | Last Vegas | $3.8 |
Frozen put up a good effort though, and the reviews were wildly positive. I didn’t get a chance to see it, but Disney’s been a roll lately, (with the exception of Cars 2 and Planes), and Frozen was said to be one of the best. The film pulled in a holiday total of $93mi! The other newcomers, Homefront and Black Nativity only made $9.7mil and $5mil respectively, but given the smaller cast and budgets, that’s still not a bad opening weekend for the films.
Catching Fire and Frozen have a whole other weekend to make more dough, as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug won’t be out until the following weekend. Stay Tuned to see if Katniss can shoot for the Top Spot again!
