As if there was any doubt in the mind of children and audiences and just human beings visiting the movie theatre this weekend, Toy Story 4, was number #1 at the Box Office. The film debuted with $118 million which was below expectations but then it was also one of the nicest weekends we’ve had all year so I can’t blame people for actually wanting to be outside for once.
The other ‘Toy Story’ that premiered this weekend was the reboot of Child’s Play. Even though it’s not technically part of the ongoing canon, it did manage to be the best debut in the entire franchise with $14 million. Did someone say sequel? The rest of the Top Ten are below.
1. Toy Story 4 $118,000,000
2. Child’s Play (2019) $14,055,540
3. Aladdin $12,200,000
4. Men in Black: International $10,750,000
5. The Secret Life of Pets 2 $10,290,000
6. Rocketman $5,650,000
7. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum $4,075,000
8. Godzilla: King of the Monsters $3,700,000
9. Dark Phoenix $3,600,000
10. Shaft $3,555,000
Next weekend, we have the premiere of Danny Boyle‘s ‘Yesterday‘. The film looks to be pretty adorable and with Boyle attached to it, it could be super inventive and more fun than the trailers make it out to be. It’ll hopefully scratch the Top Five, but we’ll have to wait til the next edition of Weekend Roundup to know for sure.
