Another week, another alien film destroys the Box Office. Okay, so that doesn’t usually happen but this weekend we were graced with the Shane Black and Fred Dekker film, The Predator, and it took #1 with $24 million. Now, that’s not really all that great a number when you find out that it only earned $30 million overseas. So, while I doubt this franchise will ever truly go away; we likely won’t see another one of these films any time soon.
The other premieres of the week didn’t really fare all that well either. White Boy Rick earned $8.8 million and A Simple Favor took in $16 million. The only good news about both of those premieres is that they both had small budgets and therefore will likely make their money back. The rest of the Top Ten is below.
1.The Predator$24,000,000
2. The Nun $18,200,000
3. A Simple Favor$16,050,000
4.White Boy Rick $8,800,000
5.Crazy Rich Asians $8,700,000
6.Peppermint $6,070,000
7.The Meg $3,805,000
8.Searching $3,200,000
9.Unbroken: Path to Redemption $2,350,000
10.Mission: Impossible – Fallout $2,315,000
Next weekend, we have the premieres of Life Itself and Night School. While the former is a film I know very little about and therefore have no opinion on; the latter stars Kevin Hart and Tiffany Hadish. It’s made for a modest budget and I bet anything it’ll be #1 next weekend. Find out if I’m right on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
