April showers…wait, are they referring to snow showers or rain showers? So far, Western New York can’t decide, and it’s been a pretty chilly Spring so far.
So instead of marveling in all that nature has to offer, I’ve been bundled up, catching up on my shows and playing video games. And writing this column – brace yourselves, we’ve got a couple to discuss.
First is Super Daryl Deluxe, a lovable High School RPG created by two Rochester Institute of Technology alums. I definitely get some Napoleon Dynamite vibes off of the game, and you may as well, if you can shake off the trance you’ll be put into by the theme song:
Daryl is on a quest to save his classmates by navigating the hellscape that is his High School (you be the judge if he has it easier, or harder, than you did). Gain allies and stuff as you power up to take on your evil Principal.
Another whimsical RPG this week is Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs – Royal Edition. The edition brings the game to console platforms after a pretty nice run on PC and Mac (it’s currently got “Very Positive” reviews on Steam). It simultaneously pokes fun at the genre while reveling in the nostalgia the creator’s have for RPGs as well. And, key selling point, it’s adorable.
Finally, Rogue Aces, a roguelike air combat game that combines your desire to star in Top Gun with some BroForce vibes, is also out this week.
