Hello to my fellow Towelites and to all Game of Thrones fans!
Can you feel it the winds of Winter approaching? We are 1 day away for the Season 3 premier of Game Of Thrones. HBO brings us back to the world of Westoros, tomorrow!
Coincidentally, and awesomely I might add, we also have the finale of Walking Dead! That’s cause for a party, if you ask me. Which is what I’m having at my place. Mulled Wine, Ale, Bacon Wrapped Dates, Shrimp, Pigs in Blankets, Cheeses and meats galore, and all kind of chips and dips to satisfy any pallet! I hosted the same party last year, and let me tell you… I hit the spot on the mulled wine.
Below is my recipe for mulled wine (henceforth named Olympian Nectar). So, be a true fan, and if you have HBO, get some people over (who don’t have HBO) so you can celebrate together! Because, after all… it is a day the deserves great feasts with great fans (and friends).
- 1 1/2 – 2 bottles (750ml) of Red Wine – Preferably Cabernet Sauvignon.
- 32 oz Apple Cider
- 1/4 Cup of Honey
- 2 oz Brandy – this is just to add a little kick, but it can make the difference. Last time I just bought one of those tine sample size bottles… its all you really need.
- 3 Cinnamon Sticks (you can get more if you want to be fancy during presentation, and add one later, per cup)
- 10 whole cloves
- 2 Oranges
- 1 Pear
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- Pinch of ground Ginger
- 1 oz of almonds
Poor all the liquids into a pot. Keep on low – you do NOT want to bring to boil. Cut Orange in half. Stick the cloves into the peel side (spread them out between the 4 halves). Cut pear into quarters (disregard core/stem/seeds). Add all fruit and the rest of ingredients into pot (only 3 cinnamon sticks. The rest of for mug garnish/decoration, should you wish to do that). Sometimes I throw in some grapes, just for the look – obviously, it’s wine… don’t really need grapes! Simmer for about 45, stirring occasionally. You can keep in on low for a few hours to always serve warm – just remember; do not boil. This is of course set to my personal test. After your first time, you can adjust to flavor it the way you want to… more this, less that, etc.
And to get everyone even more excited, here are some photos from Season 3
We have more great news today! Direct TV seems to be as big a fan as we are (which is a good thing, since I actually use them for our HBO service, lol). We’ve touched base with them concerning this awesome interactive Map website they created… “The Kings Roadmap“. I checked it out myself and was super impressed. Great map of Westoros that, as you scroll through it, jumps to the locations the story is taking place. Greatest part about it is that it follows the episodes and scenes of the show, with small recaps of the story – so you get to see how things move across the map as the story goes on.
Check out the link below. We’ve been told that they will be updating this as Season 3 goes along; which means you get to follow all the movement on the map with the story. So make sure you bookmark their page and see how things move along.

Speaking of bookmarking, make sure you stay in touch with us, as we will bring you recaps of every episode every week. Like I always say, I would prefer you watch the show (and read the book) – but if you can’t, you just missed the episode, or just want a second point of view – our recaps will be just for you!
One more day! Take a look at the awesome trailer “The Beast” below and get yourself ready! Don’t forget to check in with us tomorrow again, as we do a small recap of the story before the premier!
